The Six Nations, arguably the greatest rugby tournament on earth sees Ireland, Italy, England, France, Scotland and Wales fight out a gruelling set of fixtures each year to claim the Six Nations crown and the title of best rugby side in the Northern Hemisphere.  From it’s origins as the Four Nations in 1883, the tournament has swelled into the Five Nations and now the Six Nations is the highlight of every rugby season.

The format of the Six Nations is simple, each team plays each team once with two points for a win and one for a draw.  At the end of the tournament the team with the most points are awarded the Six Nations Championship trophy.  Home advantage alternates year on year, which keeps the competition fresh and interesting for players and fans alike. Teams that win all their fixtures in one year are awarded the holy grail of titles, the Grand Slam.  A ‘home nation’ (England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales) team beating all the ‘home nations’ is awarded the Triple Crown.
